Windhoek / Walvis Bay - NamibiaWindhoek is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Namibia. It is located in the central Khomas Region, and has a population of 306,093. The city is the major commercial and financial centre of Namibia. Germany occupied the region in 1885, and the city became the capital of the colony of German South-West Africa (Deutsch-Südwestafrika) in 1892. With Namibia's independence from South Africa in 1990, the city experienced accelerated growth. Windhoek became the seat of the first, democratically-elected government of the Republic of Namibia, headed by president, Sam Nujoma. The currency is Namibian Dollar, visa's are not required for SA citizens, Malaria prophylaxis, climate cool/dry. |
